Nicola Peltz Beckham is not the first American actress to marry into the British royalty in the past few years. Meghan Markle got there first. But the Dutchess of Sussex and Peltz Beckham have another experience in common: exposure to a sometimes disparaging British press. But where the Peltzes have been private, the Beckhams are celebrities par excellence, and the marriage, as shrieked in global headlines, rrepresented the merging of modern dynasties: British pop-culture royalty unites with gargantuan American wealth at the Peltz family's £76 million Florida seafront estate.
Right now, she's clearly still in her honeymoon phase. 'I had the best day', she sighs, conjuring up that wedding once more, her features doll-like in their delicacy, her cream-blonde hair tucked behind her ears. 'I just kept thinking, I'm marrying my best friend. And that's all that matters.' So it seems: when she speaks about Brocklyn (which she does frequently) it is with clear adoration. At one point, she pulls out her phone to show photos of them laughing, arms wrapped around each other at the Tatler photoshoot. Their instagram feeds are filled with gushing tributes to each other, boardcast to their 16 million combined followers. 'I promise to be the best husbnad and the best daddy one day. I love you baby xx' writes Brocklyn. 'I love you so much b,' returns Nicola.
On the celebrated wedding day, there was an eye-wateringly huge diamond on her ring finger. The bride wore a sleevless Valentino couture gown and platform Versace heels; the groom, a custom Dior suit by Kim Jones, as a sea of celebrities looked on. Venus and Serena Williams attended, Snoop Dogg played a DJ set, there were a couple of Spice Girls present and Victoria Beckhams best friend Eva Longoria posted selfies in advance of the couple's tranditiona Jewish Ceremony. The Daily Mail claimed that the wedding cost as much as £15 million.
Such munificence is perhaps common-place for Peltz Beckham, although you wouldn't guess it from talking to her - she is unassuming, immediately warm and interested in everyone around her. The couple are now enjoying married life at their home in LA. Nicole says that her happy place is staying in, watching a show and being with their dogs. 'We're like an old married couple.'
